Fox Farm Antiques is situated in the verdant Genesee Valley near the crossroads of “antique alley” at Rts. 5 & 20 near Avon & Caledonia, New York. It was once a dairy farm, busy growing alfalfa to support a registered Holstein breed of dairy cows. In the late 1930’s and early 40’s, the former owners introduced silver fox breeding on a small portion of the land and in the 1940’s the farm became known as Fox Farm.

Today, Fox Farm is the home of one of the largest and most active antique businesses in New York state. It is under the sole ownership of Howard Wortsman whose father purchased the farm in 1954. Howard left the farm in 1960 to expand and broaden his education in New York City where he met the professionals of the furniture making industry, cabinet makers and restorers. He decided to begin a new venture in furniture repair. When his father retired in 1978, Howard returned home and purchased Fox Farm. As the dairy farm discontinued operation, Howard used a portion of the barn for his new venture in furniture repair and restoration. As his business grew and evolved, Howard says, “I wanted to develop an antique shop.  I had all the pieces and made them come together. The sturdy barn was slowly renovated to a weather tight, attractive display and sales area. I slowly purchased quality antiques and collectibles for resale. Then I added a book room and renovated the third floor and filled it with merchandise. Soon buyers started coming from all over the United States to search the “barn” for the treasures hidden within!” Today, there are 3 floors and over 14,000 square feet of period & vintage antiques & collectibles, including Victorian & American furniture, decorative arts, jewelry, Americana, lamps & art glass, pottery & porcelain, paintings & prints, stoneware, books & ephemera. Howard focuses on keeping the business well stocked, and “that is a daily chore! I have never been busier and never have time to be sick or to take a vacation! My customers like to know that I’m accessible and I like it like that, after all, without my customers, Fox Farm doesn’t exist!”
